Pioneer Award Ceremony
IBA presented its First Pioneer Award to the Francis H. Burr Proton Therapy Center at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts, USA, at the IBA Users’ Meeting held in Dresden, Germany, in March. The IBA Pioneer Award honors achievements in research and innovations to continue the development of Proton Therapy for the future of cancer care and includes a $25,000 donation to the research fund of the receiving organization.
The Burr Proton Therapy Center recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of the first proton patient treated at the center. Prior to that time, the Harvard Cyclotron Laboratory (now the Burr Proton Therapy Center) was one of the world’s first facilities to explore the use of protons in the treatment of patients with cancer and developed significant innovations with Proton Therapy.
