Teenage girl is first to benefit from Pencil Beam Scanning in Czech Republic
In April 2013, a 14-year-old girl was the first patient ever treated by an IBA 360-degree gantry using an IBA Pencil Beam Scanning dedicated nozzle.
The girl was treated at the Proton Therapy Center Czech in Prague. Her treatment was immediately followed by a PBS treatment in the Fixed-Beam Treatment room equipped with a universal nozzle. Prague’s fixed-beam treatment room has been treating using PBS since December 2012. Medical staff at the Proton Therapy Center Czech are now swapping PBS treatments in both rooms successively and successfully.
As for the next project milestones, another 360degree gantry treatment room with a PBS-dedicated nozzle is undergoing commissioning by facility personnel. Besides supporting daily proton system operation and service, the IBA team is focusing on the delivery in a few weeks of the last treatment room (360° Gantry Treatment Room #4 with a full universal nozzle).
