Part 2 - Proton therapy clinical education for the medical community
The first comprehensive Proton Therapy (PT) Clinical Education Program, jointly organized by Penn Medicine, Oncolink and IBA, helps PT cancer treatment centers to accelerate the ramp-up time of patient treatment and increase the variety of cases treated.
The education program offers several speciality-oriented modules, covering all members of the PT clinical team: physicians, medical physicists, dosimetrists, radiation therapists and nurses. The comprehensive training shortens the learning curve of the team and increases confidence to accurately treat a large diversity of cancers, including complex treatments in pediatrics. "The average ramp-up time of a PT center could easily be reduced by two to three months, depending on the indications, field models indicate" explains Gregory Saive, Service Development Group Manager, IBA . This means taking PT treatment to patients at a faster pace than currently possible.
