LITERATURE REVIEW - There is interest among patients, physicians, insurers, and government agencies in the relative effectiveness of various strategies for management of prostate cancer, the most common non-cutaneous malignancy in men in the United States. Efficacy, toxicity, and quality of life are the most important clinical endpoints for patients selecting a management strategy for prostate cancer.
A total of 211 prostate cancer patients were treated with image-guided proton therapy in 3 prospective trials from August 2006 through September 2007. Five-year clinical outcomes included extremely high efficacy, minimal physician-assessed toxicity, and excellent patient-reported outcomes.
